FAQ on The Original RAD Race ®
The "Original" RAD Race ®-
what about it?
The "RAD Race" is a concept that took a lot of effort
to develop and refine during the years. It is mostly intellectual
work; each public assignment is completely original and therefore
very copy sensitive. Unfortunatly, this is exactly what happed (see
further after 2003). However, people know that the Original is,
and will always be, better than whatever copy. If not so, why bother
to copy in the first place ?
The "Original" also stands for real, tangible facts and
essentials. That is: a working program; instead of talk or and endless
list of product features. Simply the best program wins, period.
"The Original RAD Race" is a registered trademark ®;
its detailed concepts are since long documented in an I-depot with
the The Benelux Office for
Intellectual Property (BOIP).
We will gladly provide proof of this if needed and disclose all
in-depth information as soon as we receive a duly signed and dated
"Non Disclosure Agreement" ("NDA") from you.
Please excuse us for any inconvenience this may cause.
What about the earlier "RAD Races"?
The "RAD Race Full Version - Public" has been setup in
close cooperation (media sponsorship) with:
- CM Corporate in 1997, 1998 and 1999;
- Software Release Magazine (SRM) in 2001, 2002 and ended
in 2003. (see above)
- Datanews (2005)
- IT Professional (2006, 2007)
All the assignments/cases (1997, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003,
2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007) comprise:
- "Part One" (for RAD Race "Day One")
- including the associated data model
- the generated dataset
- all the subsequent changes ("Part Two")
- the elaborated scoring sheets and jury script
and were made by Ivan
Verborgh, who owns all copyrights (c) on them. Formal proof
of this claim (with official and verifiable date stamps) can be
provided on simple request. He builds the assignment from scratch,
prepares and coordinates The Original RAD Race ® in the field
(pre-race briefing and Q&A), monitors the complete RAD Race
event and coaches the activities of the jury during the contest.
He writes the jury report and the follow-up articles about the RAD
Race event. The Original RAD Race ®, of course.
Doesn't The Original RAD Race ®, by its racing
nature, favor "quick & dirty" programming?
Not at all ! Here is why:
All the basic information on the case is given in the Assignment
"Part 1". On Day 2, changes and/or extra features must
be implemented. Teams that go for a "quick & dirty"
inevitably get into trouble because they can not effectively reuse
their code to create new/changed functionality if it was badly written
earlier on.
