The RAD Race ©
General - In the Original RAD Race (c) all teams program the same assignment, after an in-depth briefing with Q&A. All programs are evaluated and the team with best program wins. No bla bla, only verifiable and tangible results count. Assignment - it describes the setting for a business-oriented application that is to be made during the Race.
Data model - A basic data model can be delivered in a conceptual form; it is 90 % complete and can/must be altered by the team during development of the assignment. Also, real-life data is delivered on CD-ROM so that the databases can by populated to a (almost) real-life extent. Data is delivered in a popular file format. Time Frame - The RAD Race “full version” takes about 2 working days. The general setting and deliverables for Day 1 make up part 1 of the assignment; possible further additions - changes - alterations are given with Assignment Part 2 on Day 2. Public character - The RAD Race is public by nature of the open and extended “call for participation”.
Team size - A RAD Race team consists of 2 team members. There are no rules for the skills or qualifications of the team members. But bring your best people! Number of teams - From 5 to 20 teams, depending largely on the facilities available. Software Development Tools & Hardware - There are no limitations whatsoever to the extent or the nature of the development tools used in the RAD Race.
Jury - The jury is a team of knowledgeable professionals with a wide range of development-oriented skills. They make a final decision and rank the teams. A jury report is publicly issued through the channel of Datanews. |
